General Manager Christchurch
Mob: 027 211 8960
Max has spent over 30 years in operational and management roles in the automotive industry, and joined Southern International Ltd in 2001. He was appointed General Manager in 2008, and now has responsibility for 70 staff. Before joining NZ Trucks Max operated his own business for 15 years providing automotive and engineering supplies to the Ashburton farming community.
“I try to create a supportive atmosphere for my staff and provide them with all the tools they need to excel at their jobs. Being easy to deal with is part of our culture. Our aim is to provide top quality customer support and achieve ongoing customer satisfaction. They come to us with a problem and we provide them with a solution as speedily and efficiently as possible.”
Outside work, Max’s interests are centred around his family – he has adult children living in Australia, and in and around Christchurch. He has been a keen tramper for over a decade and hikes with a small group throughout the year. Gardening, dining with friends, and travel around the South Island are also favourite leisure pursuits.

John has spent most of his working life associated with Iveco trucks. He is recognised as one of the foremost Iveco technical experts in New Zealand. John has a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to provide the very best service for customers. Typical of his style of leading by example, he can often be found in overalls working alongside his staff on the workshop floor. One of his professional commitments to the role is to stay abreast of new developments, which sees him regularly attending industry training courses.
John jokes that he has no life outside work, but the truth is that his two young children keep him very occupied. He also maintains a good veggie garden and likes a spot of trout fishing when he gets the chance.
Health & Safety Manager
Nick is a long-serving staff member who has clocked up over 30 years’ experience with parts supply to support International and Iveco products. He is responsible for four staff. Nick has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the business which, when combined with a passion to provide superior customer service, contributes to the reputation the company enjoys.
“I take a pride in maintaining good relationships with people in the industry and helping to source what they need. There’s always something new and interesting in my work, whether it’s learning about new products coming on line or adopting new systems,” says Nick.
“Outside work I love my cycling, both road and mountain biking. Occasionally I’ll take the Harley out for a ride. Travel is another passion. I’ve travelled widely over the years and visited over 30 countries.”
Downer NZ Department Manager
Mob: 027 209 4311
Steve is responsible for all work performed for Downer NZ and has four staff reporting to him. NZ Trucks South Island Ltd is Downer’s main service provider in Christchurch. He has extensive experience with both trucks and construction machinery, which serves him well when dealing with the diverse range of products that the company services for this client.
Prior to joining NZ Trucks SI, Steve and his wife Sandra operated a business for 14 years in the Darfield area, providing mobile diesel mechanic services.
Outside work Steve’s passion for classic British motorcycles is fortunately shared by his wife. Between them they own six bikes. They ride regularly and attend motorcycle rallies. “It’s the ride that’s important. I’ve been involved with motorcycling for many years and I wouldn’t be without a bike.”
Fuel Tank Repairs
Mob: 0274 916 896
Tom has extensive training and experience in servicing and repairing fuel delivery tanks, and travels throughout the South Island performing the necessary testing and repairs required to keep the fuel delivery fleet operational.
He has spent all of his working life since the mid-60s working in heavy diesel mechanics, after launching his career with a five-year heavy duty diesel truck apprenticeship. He has worked with NZ Trucks since late 2010, when he was surprised to find himself headhunted by them from his role with a company in Robina, on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Tom was a rower for 30 years and was club president of the Union Rowing Club for six years. Although he is no longer involved with rowing at club level, he continues to take a keen interest in rowing, as well as in V8 car racing and rugby.
